About us

Meet our team

We’re so proud of our wonderful team, who work tirelessly to make a difference in our young peoples lives.

All our core staff are qualified and experienced youth workers with many other specialisms. They bring together a diverse range of skills and expertise. Many are involved in other community projects and all staff and volunteers undertake annual safeguarding training and have current DBS clearance.

We might be slightly biased, but we think you’d be hard pushed to find a more kind and caring ‘dream team’.

About

Our Story

Helping young people in the Hexham area since 1998.

Hexham Youth Initiative was set up in 1998 by a concerned group of community leaders, to provide much needed facilities, activities and support for children and young people in Hexham and the Tyne Valley area.

You can find us in Hexham Community Centre. Just a stones throw away from the Marketplace and Hexham Abbey, it’s a perfect spot for our young people to visit with ease.

We are managed by a dedicated group of Trustees with management, finance and project development experience. The Board of Trustees are chaired by Di Harris, retired Deputy Head of Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham.

Kind words

“In lockdown, we were very isolated. We live a long way from a town and didn’t see anyone! Amber and Glynis kept in touch and came to see us. We played ‘distance scrabble’ in the garden and we joined in Mac’s weekly quiz. They brought us pamper packs and we really felt we had someone we could talk to and something to connect to.”
