HYI's GLBT Group on tour
HYI's LGBT group has been running on alternate fridays throughout the last year. The group runs like all other youth groups and offers young people a space to relax and have fun. They can come and play pool or chat with their friends, new members are always welcome.
Recently the group went on a residential to Whithaugh Park on the Scottish Border, where they successfully completed a leaflet to help others to understand the issues that LGBT young people may face in daily life. They worked hard over the two days and the end product- the leaflet- entitled 'So Gay, So What', will be distributed throughout schools, youth clubs and doctors surgeries in Northumberland. The residential was not all hard work however, the young people had the opportunity to take part in a raft building exercise and had use of the gym and swimming pool.
The group being one of the few GLBT groups in Northumberland, have decided to reach out to other Youth Organisations and will now be on tour. Last friday we visited Bell City Drop In and plan to visit a new location on Friday 18th December.
